This rubber seal fits around the inspection cover under your Type 3 - where dirt and water would otherwise simply enter. The original (311 705 257A) usually hardens and cracks after thirty years - causing it to no longer seal properly. With this replacement - your cover will be properly sealed again - and the chassis underneath will remain clean and dry. Combine this with a new inspection cover if yours is damaged or deformed.
